Points East Indexes

We are very grateful for the huge amount of work done by EFHS member June Lines in compiling this tracing aid and index, which is based on EASTs appearing in articles, lists and trees published in Points East since 1993. Information from the Society’s database has occasionally been added to entries (such as the parental names of World War 1 casualties).

These additions have not been cross-referenced within the entries. Chapman county codes indicate the location if given (eg. BKM = Buckinghamshire). The county is not repeated within an entry. Please allow for boundaries and spellings to have changed over time.

The Indexes were produced in batches and are now merged into three groups. Inevitably there is duplication of some names which have references in several volumes. If you have your own collection of copies of Points East you can look up the references yourself; otherwise make a note of the references you are interested in and email Angela Waterfall, our research manager. She will scan the entries and send copies by email.

References are given in the form:

S98:9
(Spring 1998, page 9)

A04:20 25
(Autumn 2004, pages 20 to 25)

More recent references are: 39:14
(Volume 39 : page 14)

East Ramblings

The EFHS rambles provide the opportunity for members, and their friends, to meet together and share what they are doing about their family history. They are also an opportunity for a short walk!

If you would like to join us then please contact Angela Waterfall, research manager. (01491 839006 or easts@waternet.plus.com)

Walk 1: Wallingford, Sept 2024

[Editor: we had a lovely day in Wallingford – a pleasant walk, saw some East dwellings, visited a church, sat next to Agatha Christie & enjoyed a nice lunch!]

Walk 2: Shoreditch March 2025

Walk 3 – Oxford Colleges (28th Feb 26)

Walk 4 – Oxford, Jericho and St. Frideswide Church (17th Apr 26)

Members Interests

On the following Members Research Interests list you will find each member is identified only by a membership number. Please contact Angela Waterfall, our research manager, giving the membership number of any member with whom you share a research interest.

If you would like to add your interests in the same way, please send the relevant information to Angela with a request to include it in the Members Interests list.

East GRO Indices

The Excel spreadsheet here of East names in the GRO indices between 1837 and 2005 was generally sent out to new members. The accompanying notes were written by our then Research Manager, Anne East to explain how to navigate the spreadsheet. Also included is a Customer Guide written by HM Passport Office regarding the GRO
